An H-stake (also called an H-frame, wire stake, or step stake) is a steel wire frame shaped like the letter H. The top prongs slide into the flutes of a corrugated plastic sign, and the bottom legs push into the ground. It’s the standard way to put up campaign yard signs.

Yes, if your signs are 4mm corrugated plastic (coroplast) with the flutes running up and down. That covers most campaign yard signs, including the popular 18″ × 24″ and 24″ × 18″ sizes. When you order signs, ask the printer for vertical flutes.

For most campaigns, the Economy 10″ × 30″ stake is the go-to. Pick the 10″ × 24″ if your signs are in windy areas, Heavy Duty for hard ground or signs that stay up for months, and Premier 18″ × 27″ for wider or larger signs.

Economy stakes come 50 to a box and Heavy Duty stakes come 25 to a box. Premier stakes are sold one at a time, so you can buy exactly what you need.

Absolutely. Pull them up, bundle them, and store them somewhere dry. Galvanized steel stakes can last for several election cycles.

Water the spot first, or start a pilot hole with a screwdriver or a piece of rebar. Then step on the crossbar, not the sign. For ground that’s regularly hard or rocky, the Heavy Duty stake is worth it.
